Emily facilitated one of the ten round table discussions at IECA’s (www.iecaonline.com) first-ever Northeast Regional Symposium on “The Future of College Admissions ”. Over 90 consultants spent the day with Deans and Directors of Admissions and Vice Presidents of Enrollment Management from five small liberal arts Northeast/Mid-Atlantic colleges and universities: Franklin and Marshall College (www.fandm.edu), Marist College (www.marist.edu), Swarthmore College (www.swarthmore.edu), University of Rochester (www.rochester.edu), and Wheaton College (www.wheaton.edu). College affordability was the dominating theme throughout the day – during both the morning admissions panel discussion and the afternoon panel with consultants. There was a lively discussion at Emily’s roundtable with Jim Bock, Vice President and Dean of Admissions at Swarthmore College on the definition of middle class in 21st century America in relation to their ability to pay college tuition.
